Charcoal is mangrove wood that has been carbonized by partial burning with little airflow. It has about twice the calorific value of wood, and because it burns hotter and cleaner, it is considered superior to fuel wood. About 4 tonnes of greenwood are required to make 1 tonne of charcoal.

It is excellent for high-speed cooking, as well as for cooking applications that require lengthy cooking times with consistent heat. Mangrove wood is very hard and dense but not very durable, which makes it ideal for charcoal production and particularly good for barbeques.

Mangrove wood charcoal produces a fairly high heating value of 5404.04 cal/ gram, and low sulfur content of around 0.029%, and an ash content of 6.34%, therefore, it can be considered as an environmentally friendly fuel.
